When we chose where to base our retreats, we had a simple list.

Right on the beach. Away from the crowds. Real wellness facilities, not just a spa menu.

And a place where people genuinely feel looked after. Hotel Komune ticks every box.

Where is Hotel Komune?

Hotel Komune sits directly on the sand at Keramas, on Bali’s east coast. It’s around 40 minutes to an hour from the airport, depending on traffic.

That short drive makes a big difference.
You leave behind the traffic, crowds and loud beach clubs of the south and arrive somewhere that feels calm from the moment you step out of the car.

What's the east coast of Bali like?

Quieter, greener and more local. There are no huge shopping strips or nightclubs next door. Instead, you get rice fields, village life and a coastline that faces the sunrise.

The beach at Keramas is black volcanic sand. Each morning, the sun comes up straight out of the ocean in front of the resort, and on clear days you can see across the water toward Nusa Lembongan and the Lombok Strait.

If you’ve been craving quiet and personal space, this side of Bali is exactly where you want to be.

Is Keramas a famous surf spot?

Yes. Keramas is a fast, hollow right hand reef break that has hosted a World Surf League Championship Tour event.

It’s even floodlit for night surfing. You don’t need to surf to enjoy it.

Watching the waves roll in from a day bed with a coffee is its own kind of therapy.

What wellness facilities does Hotel Komune have?

This is what makes Komune different from a normal beach resort.

The Recovery Center

A sauna, hot and cold plunge pools, a bucket shower and day beds, surrounded by greenery. On our retreats, it’s yours every day from 8am to 7pm. Learn how to use it well in our guide to sauna, hot plunge and cold plunge.

The Health Hub

A 25 metre lap pool, a fitness centre, large yoga pavilions and training rooms. This is where your yoga and fitness classes happen, along with your private session.

Semi private reformer Pilates

Komune has 6 reformers, so classes are small, with a maximum of 6 people. You book your classes at reception when you arrive.

The spa

A traditional joglo spa, open from 10am to 7pm, where your 80 minute Balinese massage happens.

More wellness programs

The resort also offers STOTT Pilates and Art of Longevity programs. If longevity interests you, see our guide to longevity habits you can start on retreat.

What are the rooms like?

Every room at Hotel Komune has air conditioning, fast WiFi, daily housekeeping, an ensuite bathroom and filtered drinking water.

Resort Room: a calm, comfortable base, with one queen bed or two singles.

Beachfront Pool Suite: your own horizon edge pool facing the ocean, a king bed, a waterfall shower and a deep soaking tub. You can watch the sunrise from your pool.

The upgrade to a Pool Suite is less than USD 100 per person per night. Compare both rooms and prices.

What is the food like?

On our retreats, breakfast, lunch and dinner are included every day.

At each meal, you choose any dish from the menu plus a non alcoholic drink, with coffee or tea at breakfast too.

Everything is prepared by the resort’s own kitchen, which is one of the easiest ways to avoid Bali belly.

What's there to do in the evening?

The Beach Club sits right on the sand, facing the waves. On some nights there’s a Bali Night or live music. Reception will tell you what’s on during your stay.

Coming as a group? Hotel Komune also has a hidden karaoke room that groups of four or more can book.

Getting around from Keramas

App based ride services can’t pick guests up in Keramas village.

That’s one reason our retreats include airport transfers and transport for excursions.

You never need to arrange a car. Read more about the biggest stresses of travelling to Bali and how we remove them.

Why do we base our retreats here?

Because it’s where rest actually happens.

The beach is quiet, the facilities are serious, the rooms are comfortable, and the team is warm in the way only Balinese hospitality can be.

Guests talk about the staff again and again, and it’s the people who turn a nice stay into one you remember.

Getting here from Australia and the US

From Australia: Perth is about 3.5 to 4 hours from Bali. Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane are around 6 hours.

From the US: there are no direct flights. From the West Coast, allow around 20 to 21 hours with a connection.

Your driver meets you at the airport either way. See 3 nights or 7 nights to choose the right length for your trip.
